I recently bought a used '22 ST. It came without roof rails, and I was trying to figure out if it was from the factory, or a modification. Does anyone know if the VIN would answer my question?

Congrats and welcome!

I'm not entirely sure if the VIN will identify the build however it is more than likely that it came from the factory like that. There will be other that will chime in and add clarification but from 20-23(?) having the rails were optional and for later years they were standard. A number of us prefer the look of a roof rail delete. Enjoy your ST its a great truck when everything works correctly!

For the ST, roof rails were standard for 2020, optional in 2021 and 2022, then standard again in 2023 and 2024 according to the order guides. Probably made optional due to the pandemic for some reason. The crossbars were always accessories. I have read a thread about an owner taking their rails off, but I would think those would be rare cases. You could get a copy of the window sticker to verify they were not on from the factory, but more than likely they were never ordered with the vehicle when new since they were optional in 2022.
