I went to a local shop just to price out some new rims. I liked the Velgen VFHX-02 wheels. I knew they would be more than I'm used to paying but not that much! $1,200 per wheel is crazy. So I looked at the Classic5 V2 and they are $750 per wheel. My American Racing Outlaw II rims on my Ranger cost me less than a grand for the set! What makes them so much more expensive other than the name? I also looked at some Asanti rims that looked nice and were a lot less money.

Most Velgen wheels go for around $2600 a set. You pay for a fully forged rim, very lightweight, and great quality. The Outlaw rims are heavy cast aluminum rims and in a lot smaller size probably, not a fair comparison at all.

Actually the Velgens everyone is running are not fully forged. Those are Scott’s flow formed “Lightweight Series” line. His actual forged wheels are north of a grand each at minimum.

No, I was joking, hence the smile. Mainly laughing at the fact they are AR rims. I know they are cheap. I just wasn't expecting the rims to be so much but I can't say I don't get it. Everything is more expensive.

The ones I was looking at first were the forged rims. The VFHX-02 were $1,200 per rim!

Interesting, I stand corrected. I will say I’m impressed that a flow forged wheel is that light (maybe I’m nieve though).

Don't mean to drag this thread too far off-topic, but this is kind of related.

I ended up with a curbed a wheel about a month ago, 21 OE Black Ford ST wheel.
I've never curbed a wheel in almost 50 years of driving. There are only two of us (my wife and I) that drive the vehicle, and I didn't do it. Enough said?

The damaged wheel was beyond what I could repair (touch up) and live with, considering the rest of the set is perfect. I looked at having it refinished and looked at renewed wheels both as a set and individually,

Given this opportunity, I considered getting a new set of tires and wheels. The tires only have a few thousand miles on them, and I wouldn't buy a set of 21's if I were to go with new ones. That helped influence my decision. Ultimately, I decided to stay with the OE's. What can I say? I like them, and I decided to just buy one new one.

The price seemed to bounce around a bit over the holiday weekend and from dealer to dealer, but the retail price on the wheel through Ford was $995. o_O I did some creative research, called in a favor, shipped it to the dealer and got the wheel for $650, so not so bad, but of course mounting and balancing had to be added in. I was shocked that the OE wheel was that much.

This picture doesn't really represent the true color of the vehicle (suppoed to be silver spruce) but what do y'all think about the bronze with the silver spruce. I'm debating between the bronze and satin black. I like the gloss black but they get dirty so fast.

You have the blacks backwards. Satin looks dirty even when it’s clean. Gloss is the way to go with black. I have satin on my GTI and gloss on the ST…even the wife says the GTI wheels always look dirty and she couldn’t care less.

Yea but to be fair, you probably keep the ST wheel clean all the time, LOL! I know the matte finish looks dirty but I wasn't sure about the satin finish. These aren't the Velgen wheels, they are Voxx Modena:

I like this style and they come in gloss black and bronze. I'm just not sure which to go with! The black seems to blend in where the bronze stands out. But will it stand out too much? I wish I could see them on the vehicle!

Stand out too much? I believe if you are buying custom wheels they shouldn't look like factory wheels at all or why bother spending that money. I like the bronze you posted.

These are the rims I am considering. They are a little more sublte than the others I posted. Not bad at around $600/wheel.

I like those too. But don't worry about what others like or don't like for your wheels, get what you love. My choice for the Shelby was something bold I wanted and I love them. I know there are plenty of people who don't like them, but I didn't choose them for other people.

Those are Tire Rack photos right? Tire rack only offers OE spec wheels usually, which defeats the point of getting new wheels.

Huh? Not that I’m getting them from there, I said I was getting Velgen wheels, but why does it defeat the purpose? They don’t look like OE wheels. They are wider than OE wheels. And, some of the colors are not OE colors. I don’t understand. For instance, the example I used that was close to the Velgen I want are 20x9 with a +30 offset. That's not OE spec.

No, I wasn’t talking about Velgen wheels. I was saying usually TireRack only sells OE spec wheels, which those looked like in that photo you posted. IMG_3158.jpeg

Yes, those are rims from the Tire Rack site that I was using just as a reference. I understand what you meant now. .

Damn it! Back to the drawing board! I talked with the folks at Velgen and the only 20" wheel they have to fit the ST are the VF2's. If I want the one's I liked I would have to step up to a 22" wheel. Not out of the question but not what I wanted to do. The ride is stiff enough as it is without taking away more sidewall! I'm going to have to put this on the back burner for now. I'm open to suggestion (for wheels).

I went with tsw bathursts. Light weight and 20" and didn't have to sacrifice first born for them.
