Yes, those with the 3-bolt subframes get the E-brake update only. If/when the bolt breaks(under warranty) Ford will do the full repair. This is the most logical scenario as not ALL of the single-bolt rear end break. Likely only those who repeatedly extract the maximum performance (tuned) launch from their vehicle. I’ve hit mine on E50 HARD a few times with no issue, but that doesn’t mean mine won’t break eventually.

If Ford replaced the single-bolt with a much stronger bolt for the police units, then those bolts will also be available for all to order.

yes, sounds like this is the solution. The parking brake is to take care of the safety issue if there is a bolt failure. More often than not the single bolt will hold. Seems Ford is making the PUI customers a priority with the entire replacement as we can't have those vehicles stuck. However, for the typical consumer they will gamble on the single bolts holding until warranty is out. Appx $3k to fix (P&L) at >100,000 affected vehicles is a big chunk of money.

True,The failures seem small at them moment. Sure I would like the replacement just like most. But I also have the ford extended warranty so it gives a little piece of mind. I am still kind of curious what dealer says since they scheduled a appt for the recall and mentioned more than once, parts may need ordered based on inspection of the components. Im not hopeful anything will be done....just seems odd they would schedule it. (unless they are just taking advantage and will claim the bolt shows sign of stress just so they can get the warranty work). Will update on Monday.

I may have missed it but for the people that did have to get this fixed, did they do the 2 rear bolt subframe?

If they did, it makes me want to break mine to get the proper fix rather than getting an upgraded bolt.

In the two documented instances I'm aware of, when it broke, they fixed it with the 4 bolt. As I posted before (on the countless threads on this same subject), you have a five year warranty during which they'll fix it.

They've also replaced one member's with the same 3 bolt. That was one of the earlier cases and the member sold the Explorer after they fixed it.

They kind of in a way admitted fault , the Lincoln aviator uses the same subframe and they all have the 2 rear bolts on them, they were not recalled. Im honestly curious did people with the correct subframe get the recall through the Ford app?

My 2020 has the two bolt (four bolt) and no recall….yet anyway.

This is incorrect. There is a SSM regarding repair direction should this fault occur. Under this SSM, the dealer is to replace the differential, bolt, and subframe.

The dealer must order the VIN specific subframe to claim support for this repair. All of the vehicles built with the 1 rear bolt are by design. This will result in the dealer being required to replace the subframe with the same(or superceded) part that will be 1 bolt by design.

There have been cases where dealers have attempted to source 2 bolt frames to replace the "incorrectly" built vehicles. All I can say to this is, that it is not correct per policy. If a dealer attempts this repair, they will place themselves at risk of warranty charge back.

I waited and got a 22 so things like this would've already been ironed out. Who would've guessed ...

So critical use First Responder vehicles still have to wait 5 more months for the fix, and in the mean time don't even get the e-brake software update.

I wonder if LEO's have been notified not to stand in front of/behind their patrol units after they've put in in Park and exited.

235 reported incidents out of 250,000 total vehicles effected = .094%

Put another way, 99.906% of effected vehicles have not reported any rear axle bolt failures.

That matches my Poll results almost perfectly (98.9%).

I think it is pretty telling that the police units with the 3.0 engine are not included since they still have the 4 bolt, just like the Aviators.

I'll file the recall right where I did the one for the camera. Not having an issue and don't want the stealership to touch the ST. If by chance I bring it in for something I will tell them not to perform the recall.
