Scraped a pole... ugh

Late at night departing the off airport parking from a "covered" parking spot. Two big pickups on each side of me and behind me, very cramped, pulling out I forgot about the metal pole holding up the overhead covering and smushed my passenger door. The sheet metal is so thin it damages more like paper than something you would think is metal. Got a few quotes for repair thinking I'll out of pocket it as to not raise insurance. Jeeze nope. Range from $5500 with them trying to repair the damaged door, found a place for $3700 replacing the door with a new one. The door shell alone from Ford new is $800. Fortunately the mirror only got some minor damage with a $15 bezel. Also fortunate no other panels or damage and all the inner working of the door are fine so they can move everything over.

There goes a $1000 deductible and crossing fingers my rates won't go up or if they do not too crazy. Much rather be spending that money on cool shit! Welp lesson learned. This is the largest vehicle I've ever owned, and I need to check myself before I wreck myself next time I find myself in a dodgy situation like that.

Well, while that does suck, I think the cost for you scraping the pole is still a lot cheaper than what many guys have had to pay for getting together with a woman that swings on a pole..

part of the issue is how the vehicle requires you to goose the gas to get the damn thing to move when in reverse. It does the auto-wheel lock thing instead of just rolling. If I was rolling really slow I would have stopped much quicker when realizing i made contact. Instead I had to goose the throttle to get it to move, and i'm already going too fast to stop anything from happening.

Same thing going forward. It pisses me off everytime. I think the only way around that is if you hit the parking brake lever to release the break prior to touching the gas pedal. It releases the break and you can roll.

A light tap disengages my brake and/or auto-hold. You just have to trust it. Goosing sounds like way more than a tap. A tap disengages doesn't actually apply throttle. Same with auto-start-stop. Tap enough to start engine not enough to lunge forward. There is a difference, subtle but there is. You just have to pay attention to how hard you hit it. I'm used to it having owned it for over 5 years and use both parking brake and auto-hold at lights and ASS as well.

I can't live without auto-hold. Here in D.C. area we have some of the worst traffic in the country! When I drive a car without auto-hold, I'm so annoyed! This is the first vehicle I have ever had that feature on, since 2019. Also can't live without parallel park assist and intelligent cruise control with lane-centering, among other things... To each their own.

Looking to get ours in the shop mid-April. Paying out of pocket $1100.00 in parts, and I'm guessing a grand for the paint and labor. If you get a chance, post a pic of the damage.

Yeah I guess it’s definitely personal preference, I drove through a lot of traffic (definitely not as much as DC though) and I like to be able to coast forward slowly. I do agree though, love adaptive cruise control among those other things.

I can only comment to on the target and adaptive cruise with a week's experience, but amazing so far! Love it. My 22 platinum is the first vehicle to have it.

But I am looking into some ao tunes for sporty daily. I would like to ask the tuner to target this issue with the tune. Mine isn't a ST but I think it's the same tune different trim for the 2022. It takes a slight bit more than a tap for mine to start rolling when reversing. And I thought it was a little less but still more throttle than it should take to move forward when going from reverse to drive... but when just normal shift park to drive, no holding beyond what you hold on the pedal? It will roll forward freely?

Sorry to here of your truck, it will be good as new soon...

I do notice it takes a considerable amount of throttle to reverse on these cars vs my other vehicles, but that could be a good safety thing. Other then throttle response change, nothing else a tuner could really do.

I enjoy auto hold but also like I can disable it when needed like creeping close to stuff. Auto hold reverse I hate , I did some searching looks like auto reverse hold may be able to be disabled in the menus , going to check once I get the ST back from being repaired. If not I’ll hunt with Forscan for a setting it must be n that at least!

I feel it takes more than a light tap, I try light taps and I hear the engine bog a bit but the damn reverse hold still engaged.

Mine is a 2020 without auto-parking brake in other words, I have to engage the parking brake when I put the transmission in Park. Recalls made the parking brake mandatory. Reverse brake assist is something I like to live with because my driveway has a stone wall and when the rear camera and reverse brake assist were malfunctioning before the recall, I damaged my trailer hitch on the protruding stone! I'd rather have it stop me than hit something. It's overly sensitive but when my screen was blue and braking wasn't working I tapped the wall with my hitch and scraped the paint off.

I started playing with tapping the gas, I see that a quick as possible tap or maybe two will disengage it without the vehicle moving much. Still hella annoying when you are in a tough spot needing to go forward and reverse a lot to make adjustments.

As a dad of a girl, our #1 priority after they are born is to keep them off, and away from, the pole. Perhaps you dad needed to have that same due dilligence with you :LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL:!!!

You can turn off automatic rear braking via the infotainment screen.
