Just noticed this. Highly doubt any passenger did this from just getting in an out of the car. Anyone see this before? Car has 600 miles.

Looks like a cut rather than some defect. I would think you would have noticed that if it came like that when you took possession. Potentially anything hard and sharp can do damage like that. Coat buttons, zippers. Purse hardware. Anything. Sucks. You might try leather/vinyl repair like JBWeld LeatherWeld.

Most dealers outsource leather repair to freelance specialists (that can also repair leather furniture). I’d ask my Service Dept. who they use. A good leather tech can repair that cut to the point you’ll be unable to find it.

Someone on fb mentioned about them cutting it when removing the plastic wrapping on the seats. Can’t say for sure but that seems reasonable. No idea how I would approach that with the dealer. Clearly they’re going deny it.

there’s a lot area to look over when buying a car. This is a very small cut. And poor lighting, easily can be missed.

Of course the dealer denied it. The guy said he specifically removed everything and that no such tools were used. So I’m not sure.

I had something similar in my front passenger seat. Very hard to no notice unless you're looking at it from the correct angle. Like you I had less than 600 miles when I noticed it. The dealer mentioned thst they have seen this several things mes now and are replacing the leather seat cover under warranty. 2021 Explorer Limited Hybrid.

Maybe from the factory. I'd give the Ford customer service line a call.

Interesting. Mind sharing what coding or the dealer used. I actually have an appointment Monday and would like to present them with good information. I’m just afraid they will just say I did it. But the top of a seat? Clean cut? Not sure that’s something a user could do. On a brand new car.

Update: a month or so ago I got my selling dealer to file a good will claim. It was approved. $1000 to replace the seat. Ford was going to cover 90%. I asked the selling dealer, can their sister dealer that is much closer do it. They said sure. The other dealer was contacted and after some initial hiccups, it was approved and now parts are in

Now I’m being told it will be $200 because a separate claim was filed and it can apparently change at any time. How was I supposed to know that?? I was never informed this could happen.

Would you guys still go through with it and have it fixed even if they charge me $200? I’m going to fight them on it but I also don’t want to cause too much issues. I’m still reluctant anyway cause I hate dealers touching my car and I’m scared they’re going to screw something up. But I also hate that my brand new 22 ST has this seat tear.

I appreciate any recommendations!

I think I would try to talk them into covering the entire cost first by using "honey" and not "vinegar." Worst case scenario, I personally would pay the $200. Though small, I would fear that cut will get much worse over time.

That’s exactly my fear and why I’m doing it mainly. I was planning to cause a little fire today with the one manager but then I realized I better not do that until they’re finished the job. Like you said, regardless I think I’m going to pay. I just feel the new price change isn’t right and they should eat that cost. I guess I’ll take that up with them tomorrow when I go there. He did submit an appeal so maybe we’ll hear back today.

Just more upfront cost and fear of them screwing something up has me hesitant. But I guess I need to trust they can replace a seat cover.

thank you for your feedback.

That would rub me the wrong way as well. Dedinately worth addressing in my opinion. I think how they choose to address this will tell you alot about them.

Yeah exactly. And it’s a dealer that’s over an hour away. Not my main dealer, just the selling dealer. So I have no problem making a fuss to them. Because it’s wrong. Cause otherwise had I known it could of changed the cost, I would of just drove the extra hour to the original dealer and saved the $100. But so far they don’t seem willing to help but I haven’t really made a point to say I’m not paying that extra amount that was never disclosed to me.

I think they’re treating it as such that well ford is doing this whole good will repair as a good gesture so you should be lucky you’re getting it repaired.

But regardless I agreed to a certain price, parts were ordered, even if another claim had to be submitted, I was never informed the cost could/would change. Sorry just frustrated.

do you think it’s worth fighting with them beforehand or wait till it’s completed? That’s the only thing I’m not sure. I guess I need to see what the appeal says, if it’s even done before tomorrow, but I don’t have a good feeling.

In the long run, $200 is worth it to get the work done. However I agree that they should not have doubled it.

Well the service manager said that the regional rep agreed about be not having to pay the doubled price but apparently there is still someone else that makes the final decision. He was going on about how it’s all bureaucracy.

That right there I would hope would be case enough that the dealer or whoever take care of the increased amount. That’s reasonable right? I mean I guess I’ll see what kind of customer service they truly have.

I think dealers are scrapping for any extra dollars they can get. I was talking to my GM dealer of 25 years and 5 vehicles and he told me they are really suffering with cash flow. He said the only good thing is they were not carrying debt for huge inventory. They are selling pavement by the looks of it. Most service departments are keeping the dealers open with their revenue. As a business owner, it would really suck if my sales were cut in half or worse for a long period of time.

This does not excuse their gouging however.

Yeah I’m sure you’re right. I’ll just take it up with them tomorrow after the job is complete and cross my fingers.

Another update: they ordered the wrong side seat cover!!! They get the whole seat out, and realize this. I can’t believe this. So the bs continues. I already said to the guy so now I want this whole thing covered. I drove over an hour here. He didn’t really acknowledge it but just kept saying I’m going to see what I can do. They’re going to call my local dealer and see if they can do it. They avoided this job in the past because they wouldn’t submit a claim for it. Ughhh

Update: scheduled to get the seat replaced this coming Saturday. Still no idea what the price will be. However, was detailing my ST today and noticed a bunch scratches almost like gashes in the black plastic trim on the left side of the door opening towards the bottom. Where the seat base is. This had to of happened when the guy removed the seat back in June.
So I have a text lined up for the manager in the morning. I know it was an accident but I know this wasn’t me. Nothing goes near that area when getting into the passenger seat nor did I store anything in the front seat. I swear it’s always something.
