Folks
I think I'm in a tight spot at the moment.

I have a deposit on a (new to me) 21 ST with 31,000 miles.
BUT it has the recall (24S55) which is the Valve/Engine Intake issue on Carfax. I looked it up and it could go as far as replacing the engine.
I called the National Recall phone number for more info, and they referred me to call Ford which I did. They're basically saying they haven't made a decision on what to do at this point, but I should contact the Ford dealer and decide what to do. Supposably the Ford salesman said they would refund my 500.00 deposit. (I was supposed to pick the ST up this Sat.)
The ST is certified by the dealer. It is a fairly good price. But It's like selling someone a product and letting the customer know that there could be an issue with it. ALSO, I did read the post under "Warranty Issues" on this forum about the recall.
Anyone have comments on this?

Thanks

That valve intake recall stemmed from the failures on the 2.7L Bronco engines. I have not seen any Explorer engines have this problem. You’ll be fine, go for it! Also I wouldn’t have them perform the recall as all they do is rev the crap out of the engine and if the engine fails there they replace the engine.

Ford received 811 warranty claims, 267 field reports, and 223 customer complaints related to fractured intake valves. What does that mean?

Another question. Would I be correct in saying if I see other Sts for sale, and the recall is not those looking at carfax by now, I would be safe from it?

It means they some had issues. They sell something like 200k a year. All cars have recalls. For what it’s worth, my ST is under the valve recall. I’m close to 500hp and have reved the piss out of my car regularly for close to 40k miles. It doesn’t concern me at all.

But of course, do what you are comfortable doing!

If you base your car buying on recalls and how many issues a particular model has you’ll spend your life on a bicycle. They ALL have issues.
