Lol, the member you quoted is obsessed with keeping his key in the car and using the external code keypad to lock and unlock the car so he doesn't have to carry the fob around. I'm not sure what he does with his other keys, but even though you can do this it's not "designed" for that operation. It is however convenient for people who can't remember their keys, but do remember the code.

Using the 5 digit Securi-Code on the side of the drivers door. Lock using bottom two buttons simultaneously and then use your code to unlock.

Just FYI the cup holder slot is for whatever you want, most typically a phone. There is a slot in the console to place the fob in if the battery in the fob dies. It can inductively activate the key so you can start the car with a dead fob battery.

Yes, once you start using the keypad and maybe your phone (okay, the wife uses her phone, I don't), you will never bother with your key fob again. Try it for a week and you will never look back.

I use all three, the fob, the keypad and the app on my phone. I only use the keypad if I need to run out to the car to get something, and when I drive the car the fob stays in my pocket, I don't like leaving it in the car. I use the ford pass app to remote start the car when I'm about to leave work because my key fob is in my pocket in the locker room and the locker room is out of range of the car. Remote start from the fob only works in about 250' max and has to be line of sight so I have to use the app to cool off the interior in the summer or warm it up in the winter.

I’m just surprised it lets you lock the car with the key in it. My ‘13 Sport would lock with the keypad but would unlock after less than a minute bc the key was in the car. I assumed this one would be the same.

Just be aware that if the car is not used for five days the door keypad will shut down and cannot be used. Also after two weeks the modem will shut down and the phone access cannot be used. It can also be earlier than two weeks if it decides to do the battery save thing early, or if it receives a modem update. I have seen all these things. At that point the only way into the locked car is with the key fob.

Doesn't sound like a safe practice then. If someone broke into the car, they'd have the key too. Ok, you've convinced me not to do that!

The door will unlock when the fob is in the vicinity of the vehicle (ie in your pocket or in the console) when you put your hand on the inside of the handle. I never use the keypad because of this convenient feature. Due to this I never leave my fob in my car or it's there for the taking for anyone.
I think the keypad allows for unlocking when the fob isn't detected? Or Maybe that is a vehicle setting you can mess with on the easy handle unlock? I can't remember at the moment.
I just use the touch handle lock when I leave and grab the handle when I want in.

Your ST will not unlock by touching the door handle if your keyfob is inside the center console. There is a place specifically for your keyfob. Yes, technically someone could probably break into your vehicle and drive off, but they won't get very far if you have FordPass on your phone. Again, try it for a while and you will love it.

The hardware style keypad buttons on my older Explorers never shut down and are easier to use. I would have much preferred that on these newer vehicles.

when I bought the rubber inserts there was a big chunk of that material for the rear center console. I just cut it out the exact size of the compartment door. It absolutely stays in place and a great place to put phone’s. They never slide anywhere.
