my latest update is that my ST is still in the shop approaching 8 WEEKS!!! They received this "special" center strut nut, replaced it, and the noise if still there. I'm looking at options to give this vehicle back and get out of my lease. 8 weeks/2months...are you kidding FORD!!?? Dealer is re-engaging with the Ford Hotline.

I am experiencing the popping sound when coming to a stop and/or starting off. I posted about this already. Told the dealer when I first picked it up and he said to drive it for a couple thousand miles and let them know if it’s still doing it. Hoping we all get some answers.

We dropped ours back off yesterday per the dealers request, so I am assuming they have a solution, however I am not holding my breath.
Any developments on this yet? I’m having the issue and would love to be able to take it in and tell THEM what’s wrong with it.

For those of you experiencing this issue - Was it there from the beginning? I'd love to hear "if you don't have the issue from day 1 then you won't have the issue"

I’ve noticed it from day one. However, I haven’t noticed it the last couple days. I’ve been listening hard. Before I could also feel it under my feet on the floor board.

The second attempt to repair this noise will involve replacing something to do with the Front End Link.

Does the noise only happen when the suspension is activated? Like going over bumps? Mine doesn’t make the sound when going over bumps. So I don’t think my issue is the suspension.

Update: took mine in and i had to drive with them in the car for them to hear the sound. After checking underneath and assuring that nothing was loose they said they would make a report and sent me home. Hopefully we find out soon whats causing this issue.

I can't really say whether or not the noise happens when suspension is activated. I would think the suspension gets activated all the time when rolling, but I do notice the noise when breaking on smooth pavement or rough. Update from dealer was. "Looks like Ford is having us replace a link". I'm on week 9 without my ST :(. Looking into Lemon law now.

In mine I don't hear a noise but do feel something with my left foot sometimes when I brake. like a very faint thump. I had a 2020 Ford ST loaner for a few weeks and in that one I felt and heard the noises.

I noticed that when I am coming to a stop there is a popping sound, that sounds like a metal to metal contact, or close to what a failed bushing sounds like. It is faint, but sounds unnatural. Dealer states that they can not hear any noise, and have it on a lift looking at it. It only happens when coming to a stop, and occasionally when you take off. Might have to go up there, and drive with the technician. Any one else hear this sound?

Did you get it back yet? Still looking into the lemon law? It’s been cold, snowy, and icy here and I noticed it a lot more. Maybe something to do with 4x4 kicking in and out with slippage? Just a thought...

Nope, did not get it back yet. 10+ weeks at the dealership and 2 failed repairs. They have no idea where the noise is coming from. Per the dealership, Ford engineer has been out to look and left them with an open checkbook to do whatever they need to do. This is what I'm hearing from the dealership so not sure how true any of this is. I've filed my Lemon Law paperwork with the TX DMV and they've sent Ford and the Dealership notice. Ford Customer Service communications suck as well. If you miss their call, they call back in a week and never answer the phone. Needless to say I am done with this vehicle and Ford.

That is the sound (Clunking / Rattle), it only happens when you going slow over something uneven, or a bump. Ford Engineers are refusing to even look at it due to the other ST's on the lot making the same sound. We took the car back from the dealer, however going to keep the work order open for right now. More people need to complain about this issue to your dealer, so Ford will acknowledge that there is a problem. What bothers me is that they are stating that this is a normal sound, but nobody can tell me why it is normal, or where it is coming from. A load of BS from Ford, and their Engineers.
I absolutely noticed this for the first time today. It’s baffling. To me it sounds like suspension noise - like a strut - which the Explorer has had serious issues with in the past. There is absolutely no reason why any vehicle of this age should have suspension noise. None. I am not seeing any degradation in performance but in my last generation Explorer, that strut went out quick and without warning.

So I am having the same exact noise coming from up front. Mine definitely seems brakes related because it will do it on a smooth road and only when barely moving and I hit the brakes. Seems to act up more in reverse. I hooked FORScan up to it which allows me to see fault codes that most can not see. I found that I keep getting a fault code for abs brake module. After clearing the code several times it keeps coming back. Now after seeing the code I do feel like it might be the abs pump kicking on when it shouldn’t and that might be what I am feeling in the floor board.

I asked Fremont and San Leandro, CA. Useless dealers And they said it's the either the ABS system or the front suspension "adapting" ... ( BS) at this point I just got used to it, and it hasn't gotten any worse so I'll just live with it I guess...

P.S we should make a thread for all the horrible customer service ford dealers provide... Honestly the biggest issue ford is facing rn isn't the engineering of the engines or the looks, none of that... It's the freaking horrible customer service "advisors" and the lazy mechanics in the shop... Very dissatisfied and disappointed... after 5 years of leasing a nissan I never EVER had an issue with them, they go the extra mile and I was leasing a cheap 30k rogue... I decided to "upgrade" to a 60k Ford ST and I love the car but it's a pain to deal with the dealers... I drag my feet everytime I. Need to take it in for maintenance...
