The Covid Vaccine....Opinions

It's totally unpredictable who will do well with Covid and who will die. The death rate is low. But even if you survive, doesn't mean you won't have lasting health issues from it. Unless you have already recovered from Covid this past year, I would definitely get the shot(s). But hey, if you don't want it, you don't have to get it. I don't see a problem with that either--after all, it is only approved for emergency use--it hasn't gone through normal testing and approval.

My wife just got the Pfizer vaccine, 1st of 2.
The only side-effects she had was soreness at the injection site, and tiredness, but she is a pca, and her employer covered it, and since her client also has relatives that live with the client, my wife decided to get the vaccine. I have not got the vaccine, but I also was out of work for 5 months, as a coworker passed away from covid, and he was in good health. I worked on a different shift, and different department. He worked in receiving, so I figured he contracted the virus from a truck driver. This was back in early April. At the time, my now 15 year old daughter was battling Ewing sarcoma, which was diagnosed in July of 2019, so when my supervisor told me that there was a positive case at my work, he and HR told me that I could take time off, and they helped me get compensation. So, at the time, my daughter had been on chemotherapy treatment, and also radiation treatments, and that since we found out about the cancer very early in its stage, which was a crazy way of finding it, that her treatments were showing that no cancer had spread, and the emergency surgery at the beginning had got pretty much all of it, but since the tumor had burst, that the treatments were to prevent any spreading and to kill of any cells that were in her body. I went back to work in September, after we got the all clear after her first set of scans 3 months after her treatments ended in June. They wanted her immune system to get stronger before I went back to work, and that while I was out, there had been additional positive cases at my employer. Having the summer off was great, but my wife, daughter, and son, had to be very careful, we had supplies delivered to our house. We ordered stuff online, and only had very close friends around occasionally, and that was at distance, and outside, as we bought a above ground pool, and other outdoor activity stuff. It was definitely a worrying 2019-2020, but we managed, and still, we are very cautious, and since we live in Massachusetts, we haven't traveled out of the state on any toll roads, and make sure we do our part if we go into a public place. Eventually, things will get closer to how it used to be, but having the ST, sure made it at least fun to drive around!

Thank you, it was the worst phone call I have ever received that day. After her emergency surgery, they had the tumor sent to lab for further testing, those two weeks were filled with anxiety, anxiousness, and no sleep. The day we got the call to setup a PET scan, was the worst. Our family has a had a pretty shiny past 3 years, my mother had a major heart attack a week before Xmas 2017, then my daughters cancer in 2019, my father has depression, and ever since my mother passed, he really couldn't get over it, to the point that he attempted suicide 3 times over a 3 month period, which put him in the hospital and mental illness programs. He had been in programs in the past, as he got diagnosed with depression in 2000. Now he is a facility, as his health as really deteriorated badly, and now has dementia. My wife's uncle passed two months ago after battling Luekemia twice. I'm really hoping 21 is a better year.

From one cancer survivor to another let your daughter know congrads on a clean test. I have had my 1st shot and due to get my 2nd this Sunday the 7th. I have several close friends who died from this virus. Only side effects I and my wife were sore arms for a couple of days. I would recommend getting the shot. However I understand if they don't want it. That is what is great about the USA we have choices.
I agree to an extent but the issue comes about when you have alot of people with this same perspective--and then the virus can mutate and infect those who previously had immunity. Herd immunity only comes about if EVERYONE participates or the chances of those who cant for clinical reasons encountering someone who hasn't are exceedingly rare. Case in point the measles resurgence in CA. A childhood disease we had beat until the granola moms and anti-vaxxers thought they knew better than physicians.
I'm an anesthesiologist in Canada. I'm expected to intubate COVID patients, yet my provincial government has fumbled the vaccine rollout and so i'm still unable to get a vaccine for the foreseeable future. I wish I could have one as I put my life at risk every day at work, but I can't. So if you have the luxury of getting one, please do!
Wife and I got our Pfizer #1 a couple one a couple weeks ago, no.2 is next week. we wanted either Pfizer or Moderna due to well tested sample (over 30,000) and 94-95 protection rate. J&J is only 70% and not through final trial. Our primary care doctor is an infection specialist, so we get good, reliable info.
Anyway, the local healthcare groups and State have done a great job using the currently closed cruise line passenger terminal and State entertainment music hall. Fast, easy with appointment. No long lines. I took my wife in her rarely used wheel chair to guarantee a place to sit and not have to walk far or stand for along time. She is extremely high risk due to bad lungs from COPD. We are very happy to get the vaccine.
Patients are done in less than 45 minutes, even with after shot wait. Nurses minoring patients. No hassle or long lines. Lots of well trained and informed workers and volunteers. Other hospital locations are getting the same favorable responses.
Arm was a little sore for less than about an hour for each of us. No after affects. Cannot wait until every gets the vaccine that needs or wants it. Friends and relatives that we know that have been Covid19 infected have had a tough time, including our in denial son and wife. They are believers now that it is neither the flu or a hoax.

I have no intentions on getting the vaccine. My wife just graduated med school and she's been on the front lines for 8 months. She took the vaccination and suffered no side effects. She doesn't want children so she's not worried about that it was not properly tested on women that may get pregnant or are pregnant. I'm mainly retired, I work from home in my IT business and if I do venture out for my investment property business I follow strict protocols with dual masks and practice social distancing. That is about it. I will take a look at it again in a year and see what issues develop.. I'm waiting for the news to say it causes brain cancer or causes lung cancer because it was not checked thoroughly. That is just my opinion and those of you who are getting it may God bless and be well.
Interesting. The liberals here seem to think Trump botched the vaccine rollout. But every anesthesiologist in America that wants one has gotten at least their first vaccination and most, two. The limiting factor, far and away, is the actual vaccine production. Plenty of outlets to get vaccinated but not enough actual vaccine. Hopefully J&J will be approved soon.
