Thanks! I'll be sure to share. I've installed complete audio systems in every vehicle I've ever owned. I'm no audiophile but I am a semi-professional musician and enjoyer of all types of music. I think I have a decent grasp on what quality audio is but people's personal tastes vary greatly.

Similar here except no musical talent and my hearing took a beating in my youth standing next to concert speakers. I decided to step it up a little this time and bought an RTA so I can learn and tune my own system. Hoping that doesn't turn into a failure :)

I have high expectations for that sub given what it is.

I just finished the first layer of fiberglass for my sub enclosure. I wanted to get one good layer hardened so I could pull it out and do the rest of the layers on a table. Epic fail. Well almost epic. Had a couple large pieces fall from the top and hardened in a mess. Pulled it out with a big hole in the top. Was able to cut and grind enough so i could salvage it and put a couple pieces on last night so it is one complete structure albeit very thin. Hoping to grind some more later today to get it into shape for a few more layers. Then fill it with water to see how much space i have. I think it is too big and I may need to cut down the interior volume a bit.

Turns out I fiberglass like I weld.......lay it on thick and messy and grind it down  I'll post a pic later.

You’re gonna want at least 5 full layers of chop mat for a glass enclosure and you’ll need to deaden it after that. Fiberglass enclosures will audibly ring.
After you get all the layers in place go buy some lead shot and mix it with resin and coat the inside of the enclosure…you can add a lot of mass fast that way.

Thanks for that tidbit. I was going to go more layers rather than less especially with a somewhat lousy first layer in some spots. I've got a good solid layer now where the structure holds and I will add at least 5 more. Happen to have some lead shot laying around too.

UNBROKEN's build is very high end and bad ass. 5 Star Car Stereo has a decent video with good tips and technique on a new explorer. The explorer they're working on doesn't have the B&O system but it gives plenty of insight into the process.

So in case anybody is interested, you can fit a TW5V2 sub in the oem sub location with a custom box. Got 4 layers on the back and sides of the box and I did a quick test fit and filled it with water to see where I am at. I've got about 6" of space from the top of my box when layed on its side and filled with water. I may end up spacing the sub out about 4" instead of filling space as once I add the speaker ring I will probably add .2-.4cuft because I'd rather keep it as close to .8cuft as I can. Now to get another couple layers on and fit the ring and finish the box and get some sound deadener in there..

Here's a couple. Waiting for some more epoxy. Putting a couple more coats on the box and then I need to build the speaker ring and front with some fleece and more glass. Planning on cutting down about 4-6 inches off the top once I get a better idea of total volume. If you notice there is a step in the bottom. That area goes into the space rear bottom of quarter panel. There is tons of space there and I'm guessing I'm only using half to 3/4 of the space available there.

Alright, man. Got the LOC and AMP wired yesterday and this sub absolutely slams. I can't wait for it to break in. The sensitivity on the LOC and the amp is turned way down and I removed most of the bass out of the factory "EQ". I'm disappointed with the tuning. I'll have to mess with it some more but we're obviously limited by the factory tuning and door speakers. I didn't experience any roll-off of bass and I haven't taken it out to see how the FENG sounds. Can't wait to get rid of that though. I'm thinking the Nav TV Zen unit will happen sooner rather that later, which I kind of expected to be the case. Time to start saving for the Zen, components and amp!

Great news! Thanks for the feedback!! I can’t wait to finish.

I am going with the Nav TV. Most of my stereo improvements revolved around keeping the factory head unit. Prior to the Nav TV it was difficult to get good clean unmolested sound from the head unit.
