T minus 3 days until I need to decide. I know it’s truly a personal decision and I’ve never bothered with one before but really thinking about it for my 22 ST. Problem is I rarely keep cars long. At least that has been the pattern with me. I only drive about 10k miles a year. I know it’s mainly for a peace of mind. It sounds like if I trade in, I can get a prorated refund.

I can’t imagine keep this car for another 5 years and at the rate I drive, it’s going to take 7 years to even get to 100k. I know I need to decide on my own but just curious about fellow ST members who maybe have been in a similar dilemma. I have money for the warranty but also for repairs. So I’m not crunched there.

2022 is a reliable year. if it’s been good to you, i’d bag the extended warranty.

I fall along the lines
I bought my esp at huge discount
Even dumb stuff failing costs way more than 100 deductible,
Cheap insurance or peace of mind my wifes driver is covered

If you’ve had no problems thus far, and don’t plan to keep it long, skipping the warranty might be okay. If you want extra safe keeping just a get a really basic powertrain warranty with a deductible, should be cheap insurance, but that’s just a safe keeping measure in the case you get unlucky. Might be worth it, might not be. I honestly always like having at least a little warranty, if never hurts, especially with all the expensive tech on these vehicles.

if you insure through geico when its new you can buy extended warranty for $40/year. But you have to get the warranty the first month of insuring.

Yeah I think that’s mainly what it is. Peace of mind.

Yeah true. I did debate the lower tiers but just figured if I’m going to do it, just do it all the way. The other thing I’m curious about is all the stipulations. Like home warranties, are they sneaky with their coverage. I’m not sure.

I got a Top tier Ford plan at a big discount. So many computers and modules that seem to be failure prone. I’m even modded and not expecting drivetrain coverage. My last vehicle was a 2017 GMC 2500HD Denali. First extended warranty I ever purchased. Paid for itself several times over. Power heated mirror along was almost $1000. Powertrain was great but I had quite a few $500-$1000 parts replaced.

What stipulations are you concerned about? Good thing about Ford ESPs is if you’re modded they’re restrained by Magneson Moss Law so they have to prove the part caused the problem before they can void warranty vs aftermarket companies who I would think (I’ve been curious about this myself) could pull a quick one.

Well I’ve read stories about them not covering certain things that seemed like it would be covered. Not sure if you’ve had a home warranty before but they tend to find anyway to avoid paying for a claim. Not sure if these ford ESPs are like that or not.
I do have the FP tune as well. Which not exactly sure how that affects a warranty like this. It’s not full aftermarket since it’s by Ford but at the same time, I know it’s still a tune. So is it worth getting a warranty knowing I have that.

Ford tune only keeps original warranty. Technically it can void an extended.

Yeah that’s what I figured. Which to be honest, I’m not as concerned with mechanical failure. It’s more all the “computer” aspects of the car and if they fail. But I guess with any tune, just because it’s there doesn’t mean it negates a warranty. My understanding is they still need to prove the tune caused the failure.

The tune doesn’t automatically void anything. Good dealers will work with you if they can. If Ford tells them to pull the ECM programming then they will know and might cause problems. I tune all of my vehicles. The only one they didn’t cover a drivetrain issue was when I blew my 700RWHP motor at Road America. Worst case you might have to fight for coverage and not get it.

I've had numerous and major problems with mine mostly under powertrain warranty. Everything else was covered under bumper to bumper or recall in the past 5 years. I did get a top of the line Ford Protect Premium ESP 2 years ago and have yet to use it and have 2 years and 27K miles left on it. My powertrain warranty expires on Wednesday! I only paid $1500 for the 4 year extension 2 years ago. What this purchase has got me is first day of service rental coverage since I did pay extra for it but never had to pay my $100 deductible for any repair so far. After Wed. anything I get repaired will cost me $100.

Correct, Ford would need to prove it caused the failure. I don't know if aftermarket warranties would be held to the Magneson Moss Law that binds Ford, that's what I am curious about myself.
