Transmission disconnect

Hello all, my explorer was in the shop getting an o2 sensor replaced, and when I picked it up, the mechanic told me that this was unplugged, and said its something to do with the transmission - anyone know what this is or why it would be unplugged?

Emergency Neutral release. You can find it inside the center console.
