My 2020 ST has about 90k miles on it. Today we went down a rutted road and after coming off of the road, We stopped to eat lunch. When we went to leave and put it in reverse it vibrated really bad and then when I put it in drive int lurched for a second and then drove fine.

It seems anytime I have to throw it in reverse. I get a horrible vibration and then a lurch when I have to put it into drive. Research says trans mount. I’m just wondering if anyone else experienced this before I throw money at the wrong part.

Could be trans or motor mounts. This weekend, I noticed that when stopped at the stoplight, the steering wheel has very noticeable vibration (that wasn't there before). Has not resulted in driveability issues but I suspect the motor mounts may be on thier way out. Kind of disappointing with a vehicle that's not even 6 years old! I have 90k+ miles on mine too. If it's the trans mount, would be an easier swap. Could also do the trans mount insert while at it.

Follow up - Found a empty lot and did some testing. It does not always happen. When I put my explorer in reverse and cut the wheel, I heard a audible click or thump and then the vibration started (felt the whole car shake) Then I placed it into drive, rolled forward and felt a jerk and it smoothed out.

Get under and look at the trans mount. If the rubber is visually damaged or it seems that the mounting bolts are not centered it may be bad. You can then replace with stock and throw in a FenFab insert if you want a stiffer mount. Speedlogix also makes a billet trans mount. JXB is also doing R&D on a new mount.

In my recent experience, my ST would slam into reverse and crack out of gear when it was not up to operating temperature. Ended up being a burnt reverse clutch and clutch pack holder snapped or something. Master Technician said it was a common problem with the 10r60, although I've never heard of it.

I’m not sure how those two things could be causing the issue you described though.

The driveshaft actuator itself failed. It wasn’t just leaking. They believe that it was having some engagement issues or disengagement issues and binding up.

Ahh I misunderstood, I thought they were just “doing” the DS actuator because they were in there. Got it. I hope that does it for you.
