Prior to coming over to the Ford Explorer world, I had a total of (4) four very different Mustangs (2010 GT V8 convertible, 2016 GT V8 convertible, a 2017 V6 Convertible and a 2017 I-4 Ecoboost coupe). As I said, 2 had the "H-Pipe" replacement for the mid chassis resonator post cat converter and before curving over the rear axle. I found the H-Pipe 1)adds some sound quality to the otherwise stock exhaust (yes, you can hear it slightly louder but not annoying, 2) there is minimal drone which is important in convertible cars 3) you eliminated about 30 plus pounds of total vehicle weight (H-pipe vs resonator) and 4) the entire job can be much cheaper than a new exhaust system. MRT has H-Pipes for $300 and they take about a hour to install at a quality muffler shop. I found a slight improvement in performance with the H-pipe. I plan to make this upgrade at the end of March after I complete some travel.

My decided on the ST, since we had a ZPlan number, after driving a few different SUVs, this was it. Coming from an Infiniti G35 Coupe and then a V8 Grand Cherokee, she loved the response and handling. Just wanted to say I’ve been searching around and doing some research on here the last week as a guest and can’t say enough of how helpful and informative the people and posts are on here. So big thanks! Let the add-ons begin.

Hello all!
Purchased my new to me 2022 ford explorer st about a year ago. Overall no issues, I am currently having the sunshade replaced under warranty and I did have a 3" thermal r&d cat-back exhaust installed a couple months back, absolutely love it! New brakes being installed as well lasted about 36,000 miles with 40% still left on them but they were warping so having them swapped out. Looking forward to learning more from members who have tuned and modified theirs more than I have.

Hello all! We just purchased a Black 2025 Explorer ST for my wife's primary vehicle. As a gear head from a small child I am pumped to have this beast in the family. I have about 30 years in and around the automotive world including time as a mechanic, teaching the transportation technology class as well as building, crewing and driving dirt track race cars. I hope I can contribute as much to the forum as I gain from it.

Hello everyone! I just bought a ‘21 ST a few weeks ago. I’ve owned 5 Ford’s- 2 mustangs and 2 F150s (1 was an 02 Lightning) and the ST. Looking forward to learning more on ways to make these SUV’s even better!

Thanks, I’m interested now. I like the subtle change.

Your name reminds me of the two guys that helped me build my first engine when I was younger.
Billy and Buddy, 2 retired nascar mechanics that moved up north to be with their wife’s families. Owned a great little repair shop.
Fmoser:
RE: our previous comments and video I shared on the H-Pipe. I'm just had my 3rd H-Pipe installed today (previous two were on Mustang). It was exactly as MRT advertised: Loudness: 3. Drone:1 and Performance: 2 as compared to/with the standard stock ST Exhaust System. I tried to make a video but it did not capture the Sounds like I wanted (the one I previously shared with you is actually pretty good).

Strong Suggestion: People have always commented that an H-Pipe install is a good DIY project to save money. I am not rich but the $200 install cost I paid today was well worth every cent of it. This is a highly recommended muffler shop; it took (2) TWO guys an hour to cut, remove old resonator (or whatever it is) and properly install the new H-Pipe. They did it on a hoist, they specialize in custom fit exhaust systems. The owner commented that there were too many issues to be concerned with if you were doing it DIY. Issue #1: was the forward most part of the H-Pipe opening (fresh out of the box) had to be expanded to make them match up with the existing ST pipes. Issue #2 the Right Side rear muffler had to be temporarily removed to get the back of the H-Pipe to align with the over the axle to muffler pipe installed.
I mentioned they are a quality shop; these guys used a torpedo level to confirm the fitment while they were pressure testing to entire finished exhaust system. Bottom line, if you have the wherefore (tools, hoists, etc) and time to do it, go for it. Otherwise, find a quality muffler shop like I did!!
