True, I get disappointed when I see one and find a soccer mom driving it. I kind of die inside a little. But hey, it pumps up the sales numbers which we need to keep Ford making stuff like this. OR maybe its her husband's and she's just borrowing it. OR she's a car chick! Call me a bigot I don't care.
That’s what it ultimately comes down to. It’s a mass produced car, and if just the slim population of owners who bought it for what it is purchased it, the sales wouldn’t be enough for Ford to justify making it.

I’ve always used 91 or 93 even before it was tuned. Sure 87 works but 93 works better. I think Ford should have a special order Explorer ST that’s built, like they do with the Hennessy 500 Velociraptor Ranger. That thing must be crazy fast with 500 Hp!

I did 91 From Chevron because that's the best I can get without going to some far off station. I did that for about 4 tanks or so but then I filled up once when I still had a like a quarter tank and my bill was like $92, So it got a bit expensive again and so now I'm back down to 87. I'm an easy driver though, hardly go faster than 75 and I rarely punch it as I want to have this thing as long as possible. So I can't really feel the difference and ya really only lose like 10-15 HP anyway. Might even be less than that.

Well technically that’s aftermarket, but agree Ford left a lot of performance on the table. I can’t wait until I can get tuned, think that’s going to be awesome.

Yeah, technically. But you could say the same of a Shelby or a Foose. I know it's not a reality but I was thinking about something like SVT did with the Ranger back in 2002 when they stuffed in a supercharged 5.4L V8 in it, dropped the front a couple inches and added the 9.25 rear-end. It would have been the fastest production truck in it's class. If they could offer an SVT Explorer with like the upgraded internals, upgraded fuel system, bigger turbos, a better exhaust and the 10R80. Something like a lot of folks have done with the ST's with all aftermarket parts. Okay, time to wake up! Back to the topic.

That would be rad, but I doubt it would ever happen. I think the ST came along purely because they were basically making them already as the police interceptor and figured why not cash in on some additional retail sales and keep the assembly lines busy. I do wish they had put the 10R80 and torsen rear diffs on the ST along with RWD only.

10r80 yes, Torsen no. They like hard launches.

93. Since that’s all I run in both vehicles I never forget and choose the wrong one. Also I fill up at half a tank. Every other 1/2 tank I add a bottle of Lucas octane boost. I do the same in both vehicles.

Coyote V8 with stage 3 Roush supercharger would be a ready-made winner in my book.

It would never fit. That’s been talked about and the coyote is way too wide. But we’re just fantasying here so anything goes.

Yeah, not the Torsen but something like the Ford Performance Trac-Loc I put in the V8 Ranger I had.

Yea , just take the 3.0 nano further with higher capacity turbos, more fueling, and all forged internals and call it a day. Basically headroom to let her have a long life in the 600’s. Of course with the 10r80 and better rdu.

No Roush, Whipple or VMP (which I guess is Whipple now) would be my favorite choice.

87 since purchase. It's more than fast enough on 87. I don't drive like a c**t so the few missing horses matter less than the money i've saved over the last several years.

In Ca, our options are 87 89 91. So I run 91.

I use premium 91 as it designed for that level of power, I could get an ST-Line or XLT with an I-4 engine. I bought the ST as an upgrade from the Sport for more oomph when needed.

66gt350ps: In 1972-73 I was stationed @ NAS Barbers Point with VP-17. Is the Highway "H-1" still there and can you give me a "rough" idea how fast you have been on it with your ST? LOL, LOL. My roommate had the first 4 cylinder 900 Kawasaki MC sold on the Islands; one evening we were ripping along on the plus side of 135mph. And He still had 1/4 throttle left!! I'll bet H-1 would be a fun ride for an ST, even a bone stock one with NO mods.

The base has closed and VP-17 was moved to Kaneohe MCAS hangers across the island. The H-1 still is the main highway, but Hawaii is the only state without a 65mph speed limit. Most highway speeds run from 45 to 50 mph only. There is a five mile 60 mph stretch only near the old base.. I would commute f33 miles each way from Hawaii Kai on the east side to Kapolei (by the old Barbers Pt base a lot and cruise at the higher speeds and get 25 mph with the ST. I had my two Shelby Mustangs out there for restoration but they are home now. The area is built up immensely since you left. Come back and visit sometime. Forget high speeds. The crack down on high speed runs in intense as we have lost too many late night rocket runners, especially two wheelers on the highways. It is better to cruise to enjoy the views and save our zooming for mainland visits.
