Sometimes it’s beneficial to have a moderator lock a thread. Have not seen much of that on this forum... yet.

You and I both are on the F150 forum. They don’t hesitate to pull the trigger on a thread. I say let them run, as long as they don’t get ugly.

I was there. Left when I sold that truck. It’s a good site...I enjoyed it. I should have said I haven’t seen a thread here that needed locking. We don’t lock them on my diesel page until the death threats came out...we’re all grown up and we know things get hot sometimes. If people cry we just tell them it’s probably not the right place for them.

I hope that I am "mature" enough that if I have a beef with someone on this forum, I'll do it with the private conversation option. Most of us on here are regular Joes and are here for tips, info, and a little entertainment. I most certainly have not lived the lifestyle that some seem to boast about. That does not make me jealous or envious. We all have accomplishments that we are proud of, and if they come up in a forum thread once in a while, that's OK. I have been on numerous car sites in the past 25 years. I was a member of a Subaru (nasioc) website back in my STI days. I remember one thread having to do with air filters. A user had put a K&N style filter on his car and stated his gas mileage had increased approximately 20%! I posted a response to ask how he ascertained that amount of increase in mileage? He stated it was because prior to changing the filter he was at 3000 rpm when he was at 60 and with the new air filter his rpm had dropped to 2500 at the same speed.

I then made the "mistake" of asking how- barring constant and continual clutch slippage- how the heck did an air filter change his final drive ratio? This particular poster had 1000s of posts and obviously quite a few friends. I was then attacked by numerous individuals "defending" the poster. This debate raged for several days with people putting forward the most unbelievable and physically impossible methods to justify this ridiculous post.

I've always been struck by how otherwise common-sense people could become so vitriolic!

Completely agree. These things generally take care of themselves. I assume the person in question deleted all his posts on this thread since they have disappeared?
