What power level does traction become an issue?

I’m on a ZFG E50 tune and really thinking about tossing in the wallet for the $12-15k turbos/fueling/ etc. I’m on stock rubber and unless it is is really cold or wet, I don’t really spin unless it is a hard launch but from a 20mph roll, it isn’t an issue.

When are people seeing traction become an issue. My last mustang didn’t get full traction until around 80 or so.

That will differ by case. Suspension, tires, tune, weight etc will all be factors.
I barely spin, if at all. That's with running 93 DMS tune, IC, DP's, CAI, Stage 5 CRP Turbos etc.
Might attest some of that to the fact that I have 300lbs of equipment on board and sticky tires.
It's my guess that you can always counter HP with anti spin tactics. It helps that these STs are intelligent 4 wheel drive.

Wheel hop is going to be the biggest problem you’re going to run into. Suspension mods will fix that. These cars AWD systems are really efficient in getting traction and putting power to the ground. I’d focus on suspension mods, and even a somewhat decent tire on stock wheels should suffice, something like an PS4 A/S should do perfectly fine.

Awesome can't wait to read about your build. That being said going all in like that wouldn't it be prudent to look into engine internals upgrades as well (forged pistons, connecting rods, etc)? Also don't forget supporting stuff especially the fenfab oil pan to ensure engine blood pressure stays safe. Mine just arrived can't wait to have it installed.

I’m not planning on going big. Just CRP stage 5 turbos. So, motor should be good. Will build the trans though.

The 3.0L is really stout in stock form, and as long as he’s not going really extreme or tracking it a lot, they’ll be perfectly fine. Trans would be a good idea to build though.

I've seen the like as far as building the trans. I have fairly good power but I don't track it or do many launches at all. Mostly just punch on the go. Do you think the trans will hold up under my driving conditions or should I consider a rebuild?

I honestly would just wait until it’s starting to slip. Definitely know it has an high possibility of needing a rebuild. Unless you’re launching it ever, the tranny should start slipping before it would go totally out. Might not go out at all if you treat it right.

This. I would wait until you feel some slipping. At that point it needs a refresh anyhow so you could build then. Don’t see a lot of hard parts breaking in the trans at around 500hp.

I drive similar, I'm not doing trans break launches but also don't baby her when the road conditions allow. My plan is what others mentioned, if she starts to slip, that's when I will go for the "built" rebuild. Otherwise I plan on moving to the PPE aluminum transmission pan when I do the first trans fluid change over to Amsoil at 15-20K-ish miles.

Well right off the bat, I wouldn't consider the mods I've done as treating the trans right. lol
The only thing I can attest to treating this one right is keeping the fluid clean by exchange and as Adam from ZFG recommended, keeping it slightly over full. His tune programming will do the rest. The only time I launch from zero is when I get a tune revision and recheck the 0-60 specs. So far, that's been once every few months.

When you mention the trans slipping, would that be while it's changing gears or on the roll in a specific gear?

With the mods I have, I would lean more towards 550-575hp on 93. If I put ethanol in it, ZFG predicts 625-650 to the wheels.
Was thinking of getting a used 10R60 and sending it to a rebuild company then keep it on standby.

That will be one fun as hell ST!

Keeping a tranny as a cold standby sounds like a bit much. Perhaps think about locating a reputable transmission shop in your area with 10R60/80 experience and purchase to keep on hand a performance rebuild kit like one from Suncoast ready to go? This way you show up to the shop with the kit and they can get right on the schedule with it instead of risking stuff being out of stock and shipping time etc.

Def makes more sense ... but I can forget about having a "reputable transmission shop" in my area. I couldn't even get half the places I called to check the trans fluid level. Getting the parts before hand sounds key. I would still bring it to Level 10 in NJ as they would have experience in solid rebuilds and most likely be familiar with the 10R60.
In the meantime, as long as this trans lasts, it "is" a lot of fun, especially in sport mode. Well, ... fun for me, not for Chargers, Mustangs, Teslas, Durango Hellcats in this area. (smirk)

When I mean treating the tranny right I mean no trans brakes and preventative maintenance. Trans slip can occur when switching between gears or in a specific gear, it depends.

Yes to both. I don't have a trans brake and do try to keep up maintenance. So far, it's been pretty tight. (crossing fingers)
Abusive driving is kept to a minimum. Spirited driving consumes only 20% drive time.
