Any recommendations? I’ve once had a steering wheel peel before with some cleaner. It was awhile ago and I don’t remember exactly what I used. Needless to say I am very cautious now.

I’d use nothing more than a damp cotton towel.

Any decent leather/interior conditioner will clean at the same time. I use chemical guys interior and does a fantastic job.

Try a damp Ivory soap bar applied with a damp microfiber towel. That is for super light cleaning.

If you want to eliminate the glossy, shiny leftover oils from your hands and whatnot, then ColourLock cleaner and a leather brush will tidy that up. Follow it up with a protectant (your choice, I use ColourLock as well).

A multipurpose/combo type product won't actually clean much or protect much, it does both rather poorly. However, if that is what you want for convenience or what you like, then find a brand and roll with it. I've used Chemical Guys leather interior combo for years as a quick touch up (carry in the car) bottle and it did fine until I was able to take the time and clean it properly, then protect it.

You can't really screw it up unless you use super harsh and aggressive chemicals. Start light (water, soap, cleaner) and see what the results are, then protect it up and enjoy!

Can't advise something, but advise not to use any alcohol-containing liquids or wipes. I get some black paint when I wipe steering wheel  and the color of it become grey

Biggest downfall of steering wheels is the shine...It's all the grease, dirt, makeup, etc etc that's on your hands being transferred. Leather/Pleather should never appear shiny....shiny=Dirty (or poor detailing product leaving oil based residue) leather anything in the vehicle should always appear matte.

-Use a soft brissle detailing brush and either P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner (very gently yet highly effective at no dilution) or Nextzett Cockpit Premium
- Spray wheel liberally (dont worry about saturating buttons) lightly agitate wheel with brush and wipe dry
- Finish with Nextzett Lederpflege and wipe dry as well after about 5 min.
