Will there be an Explorer RS?

Just curious what you guys think. There's a couple areas that could be massaged for some pretty nice upgrades to make an RS model. Ford could easily fit monoblock brake calipers, an LSD, add some extra power, and maybe throw some sportier seats and or materials in with a bit more power.

You guys think there's any chance of it happening? With the ST sort of splitting the difference between the Durango RT and SRT, and not having any other real competitors, is it even feasible? Or more likely for Ford to make an ST version of the Escape?

Ford did have some patent drawings with a V8 and AWD for this platform. Throw in the predator engine from the GT500 and you have an answer for the Trackhawk.

Explorer RS with the 5.2 v8 from the Raptor R would be next level. Probably will never happen though. Has been a thought of mine before

A supercharged V8 could easily be done. If they can fit a supercharged 5.4L in a Ranger they can fit it in an Explorer. They just won't. Don't think there would be enough of a market for it. However, they could make it an option. They do have the Escape ST-Line with a 250 horse four cylinder.

For all of you that keep hoping for a coyote or a yote variant in the explorer, just quit already. The coyote WILL NOT FIT. I measured the engine compartment on a 20 explorer ST way back in July of 19 when they first hit the dealerships and I had a mustang with a coyote in it so I had the engines outside dimensions. The inner fenderwells are too narrow, and since the current gen explorers are unibody construction, modifying the fenderwells to fit a coyote would require major surgery. Ford is not going to that. Currently there is only two gas powered V8's in fords lineup, the coyote used in the mustang and the F150, and the 'Godzilla' 7.3L used in the super duty. The godzilla 7.3 is a possibility because it is narrower than a coyote due to the smaller heads and cam in block design.

BTW the predator engine used in the GT500 and the raptor R is just a coyote punched out to 5.2L with a supercharger slapped on top, so if a coyote won't fit, neither will a predator.

I thought the "RS" name plate for performance models was limited to GM vehicles.

Has there been a previous Ford RS vehicle?

Ford only uses "ST" for all their performance models in every vehicle line. Explorer ST, Focus ST, ETC ETC

Incorrect. The Focus RS was actually a pretty hot little car. Globally Ford has used the RS tag since the 60’s.

I think there is a greater likelihood of an Explorer Raptor than an Explorer RS. The Explorer doesn't really fit into the rally sport category. With so many people wanting the Ford Everest to come to the states, I think Ford would solve the demand with a Raptor trim.

My parents have a hybrid maverick
It's perfect for them. Gets great mpgs
But imo it rides like a buck board and seats get hot fast.
It's first year, maybe new ones are quiter, and better riding
