my wife is on a trip and sent me this pic - yikes!

I'd like to use Ford to replace it so we can get the OEM quality windshield with the cool Explorer logo, but unsure if insurance will cover - we usually use Safelite to replace windshields

Safelite will also quote you on the OEM glass if you ask. I found the service used by local Ford dealers and they were cheaper than Safelite. I paid extra for the Ford glass and am satisfied.

Most insurance has glass coverage included. It's a separate deductible as well. Had one windshield replaced by Geico and then one repaired, twice. The repairs cost me nothing out of pocket. Construction trucks were terrible in Jersey.

yep I've had several windshields replaced, repaired - but these newer ones on the Explorer are really nice - I am checking with Safelite and they do seem to have an OEM quality replacement

I had mine replaced by safelite and I requested an OEM ford windshield, and that is what I got. I even got lucky and they put in one with the windshield de-icer in the glass.

Yeah, the de-icer was standard on the ST in 2020, then ford started their typical de-contenting and it disappeared in 21 and not only did they remove the heating element but they removed the entire harness that it plugged into.

go thru your insurance and tell them you want OEM glass. you should only have to pay the difference.

That is pretty high. What insurance company?

I always keep the added "windshield replacement" supplemental just for those instances.

I'd reach out to USAA directly to see why.

Good luck getting it covered and getting a factory replacement.

Back in the spring, my wife's ST got a rockchip on the way back home from TX. Our insurance has $0 out of pocket for replacement glass, so I made a schedule with Safelite. I inquired about getting an OEM one and they said sure, but, they have to order it and there is no ETA on when it can arrive, as they did not have any in stock right now. So far no issues with the aftermarket glass and everything works as expected.

recalibration is kind of a joke. the camera doesnt sit on the glass nor do any of its connections. if its OEM glass you are getting the same transparency as you had before so its not like the camera system needs to be calibrated for the new transparency. the only time you need recalibration is if the car has been in an accident or they knock the camera when taking/replacing the glass.
