Hi All,
Has anyone done a seamless wiring from inside the rear roof to the rear hatch? I'm trying to wire in the rear dash cam that's installed on the hatch window. The only clean way I can see that won't interrupt the seal is to use the same channel as the wiring in the rubber boot that's connecting the hatch electronics to the body. Problem is, I can't gracefully remove the boot from the oval hole without thinking I'm going to split it. I also can't pull the roof lining down far enough to see if there's a pathway to the boot hole. I don't want to rip the lining by pulling it down too far. I've removed the inside plastic panel going over the window but I guess I would have also remove the inside side panels to free the lining up a bit so I can pull it down further. Just wanted to make sure I was headed in the right direction before going any further. You can see the wire I'm working with dangling down from the upper seal on the right. Your thoughts?

I ended up drilling a hole on the hatch and rear. I used rubber grommets. Put a couple layers of heat shrink tubing just to protect the wire. Primed and painted inside the holes.

Going on two years and it’s holding up well.

I tried to find a good spot but just couldn’t get those huge grommets open without breaking them. So long as you paint the metal corrosion shouldn’t be an issue.

I run a BlackVue 970. I am currently involved in a lawsuit. My dashcam clearly shows it was not my fault despite the injured party’s buddies swearing it was my fault. Without the footage I would have been screwed. Between that and a couple minor issues it saved me and I will never drive without one again!

That's precisely why I've installed this! I'm glad you got yours in on time to protect your investment and savings! IMO, it more than pays for itself.
It's good to know I took the right precaution concerning those large grommets.

The rubber boot easy easy to remove from the white plastic oval piece. You first should remove the oval piece! IIRC, tabs on both ends. Then fish the cable through the boot with some help from silicone lube.

I just ran mine from the rear hatch around the weather stripping, ran along the cracks in the trim, through the weatherstripping of the door, up through the top of the windshield, under plastic cover, and to the dashcam. The wire sticks out but is a lot easier for me to do.

Nice write-up PlatinumST! I've already run everything with the exception of getting the rear cam wire from the rear roof to the hatch. It's a good help to see the rubber conduit assembly and how it detaches. If I have too much trouble with it, I'll simply drill my own holes and and make rubber plugs to seal the wire.

I got both ends of the rubber boots off fairly easily. It seems the end that goes to the roof extends the rubber well inside the hole with tape around the wires leading up and over it it. Did you run into the same problem and have to cut the tape back to expose the end of the rubber extension?

I haven't done mine yet, but if I remember correctly the OP mentioned he had to force it through with a stiff zip tie?
