My brother just got the two that he ordered and seems to like them so far. I want one for each of mine, but don't feel like spending the money. Let me know what you think about it.

I hear you, I'm guessing it's not going to be some huge difference. I had 2 old ones laying around I had from previous cars, so hawking them on ebay paid for the new one. I don't have much seat time yet but I have noticed it is quieter when my old one falsed in some of the same places, so far I'm pleased.

Did you hard wire to fuse box, or use the mirror tap?

If you have a valentine it's so easy to use the savvy and have it powered by the OBD port, tuck it under the headliner then under the seal going down, it's a 5 minute install

Great job! Any thoughts on upgrading the V1? I also have a V1 and have been getting tons of emails to upgrade.

I believe at this point the upgrade is a trade in credit towards the gen 2 model, which if that's the case you'll get more selling it on eBay.

I'd like to know if you tapped your mirror as well. Thinking about tapping mirror and mounting for my Escort. I haven't put it back up since I tinted my front windshield.

I did not as it is powered via SAVVY which is plugged into the OBII port. I just hid the hard wire where it's not visible. I do know there are mirror tapping kits out there though.

I just got my Valentine ONE V2.... only power thing that I got was a phone cord to the cig lighter plug or a shorter ( hard wire by the mirror) kit. Don't know how your using OBD. I want it to shut off automatically when I turn the car off, the lighter stays on all the time. Anyone else have a step by step to hard wire (tap) it into mirror ( or sun roof) ?

There's a bunch of mirror tap kits out there, but I use SAVVY which plugs into my OBDII port. It's made by Valentine and you can set what speed you want the radar detector to automatically mute. It's super nice for sitting at stop lights, going slow by stores, etc... I normally find mine used and cheaper on eBay, but here's the link for more info on it. Thanks, I'm assuming that it will shut off when the car is not started. Also, do you have a pic of the OBDII port location ( with the SAVVY plugged in)? I have it in the lighter port now.

Correct, it turns the unit off when the vehicle is turned off. I do not have a picture at the moment, but I'll try and remember to take one later.

If you run an android device, check out JBV1 on the play store. It is an awesome companion to a V1 detector.

If you look in the Interior Modifications and Upgrades Forum under the Mirror Tap for Radar Detector thread you will find good instructions and pictures. That's a much cleaner installation than the SAVVY.

How is it cleaner? If anything I think it's more obtrusive.
Here is mine setup using the savvy

I'm a long time V1 fan and just upgraded to the G2 (arriving today I hope). I don't really want to use my OBD port/buy the $70 Savvy (the low speed functionality can be replicated using an app). So, I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about using the included direct-wire adaptor (which I used in my last car) vs. a mirror tap (like the MTX-1015)?
