So I have essentially zero engine work experience but I’ve been convinced. Any useful install resources for a smart but garage noob St owner?

The JTL Catch Can is easy to install less than 15 Mins. Also you can find a step by step U Tube video to assist you if needed. It is pretty easy to do

Dang , after reading tons of reviews on the JTL catch can...as a tightwad, I can't pass this add on up.

So I'll be ordering one.

Amazon or direct?
Probably Amazon because I have an open running account there.

It is also easy to remove when you send your ST in for warranty work.

Sorry guys, I will pass on this one. I did read some good things about the UPR catch can, but I cannot justify the costs based on the fact that Ford has improved on this issue with the ST and although opinions vary, it is not likely necessary.

They have done nothing to the ST to prevent the valves getting deposits.

The 3.0TT EB only has DI(Direct Injection). It is the 2nd Gen 3.5TT EB that has both Port and Direct Injection which helps to clean the intake valves.

The UPR is great, but for over double of the price of the JLT, only catches slightly more.

The JLT is $150, and takes about 20 minutes to install, and requires ZERO modifications to stock parts.

There is no dealer in their right mind that would deny warranty with a Catch Can.

That being said, the JLT can be removed in less time than it takes to install.

Watch this

And this

There is nothing here that would affect anything to do with a warranty. ANY DI engine needs a way to keep the valves from getting carbon build-up. You have 3 choices: 1) pay to have Ford pull your intake valves and clean them at 60k miles, 2) wait for the carbon to build up to a point where it breaks off in a chunk and best case scenario gets sucked into the combustion chamber and then into the more delicate/expensive parts of your engine, 3) spend $150 on a JLT (or even $50 on a stupid Amazon one) and have peace of mind that you are keeping your engine happy.

Does anyone know why a car company wouldn’t add this simple product to better the vehicle?

thanks for all the opinions.

What’s the best way to clean the catch can and connectors. JLT has a pretty good video. They use break cleaner to clean all the areas that need to be cleaned.

I can't believe that a catch can would affect your warranty in any way.
It's an improvement that the mfg overlooked , or maybe not.

Ah ha they make more money doing engine repairs .

Stupid stupid that it would void warranty.

one more thing for the consumer to forget to empty/change/service. remember that we STILL have people running their diesels out of DEF or putting diesel in the DEF tank, putting gas in their diesel, waiting until their oil pressure light comes on to change their oil, and driving around on tires that are either bald or 20psi too low. for MANY people, their simple commuting equation is: gas + car = go

Nice thing about direct is Amazon doesn’t get a cut.

Have the UPR with drain kit and pro series check valves on its way. Really liked the JLT price point but I’d drive myself crazy knowing there was a more premium option. Excited to receive and install.
