Just ordered a 22 ST - 1st Ford!

I've been a GM guy basically since forever. About 18 of 20 vehicles in my 21 years of driving. I've had a lot of Ford work trucks and vans, but this is my first purchase. Basically feel they've been in a steady decline and Ford has been slowly getting better for a long time, so here I am!

Ordered today and the dealer is saying January, hopefully it comes sooner!

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll be happy with your purchase. I was raised Buick, Olds, Pontiac, having owned my share of Camaros and Firebirds. Didn't start buying Fords until I started working for them. What did you get on your new ST?

GMs lack of a decent mid-size SUV (marketed it anyone younger than 60) left me seeking other options this time around. Hoping to enjoy the ST as much as I did the SHO a couple decades ago

Carbonized gray, ST street pack and roof rails. Thanks to this forum I found out the 22's can be ordered without auto start / stop and receive a $50 credit so apparently I won't (thankfully) get that option.

I very much wanted a 94 or 95 SHO when I was in highschool, but it never happened. That and a Mark Viii. There have been a lot of Fords that I wanted, but something else always won out. For those, I ended up with an Aurora which I felt was a good mix of the two, but not quite as fast. For 18 years old in 2002 though, the Aurora was pretty quick once it got rolling. Ironically I raced an SHO a few times and lost, but not by a ton.

I hear you on the GM options. I considered the Traverse, but it just isn't exciting. I don't like most of what they're putting out these days as everything is either boring or has some weird design aspect. About the only thing I like is the 21+ Tahoes but they were about 65k + TTL, this was just under 50.

As an update, they couldn't remove auto start/stop. I guess that's 2.3l only.

Yeah the sho was great for its time. The fact they came with a stick made it all the better.
Transverse v8 in that aurora? I never rode in those but image that was pretty cool for it’s time. The Grand Prix GTP w/supercharged 3.8 was cool too.

Re: Modern gm suv offering. I don’t love the latest gen Tahoe styling but I would have been open to if if the pricing wasn’t so astronomical. Everything under that is lame though. I drove a family members 3.6 Acadia, and pickup was decent but the torque steer reminded me of 1995. Woof. Not that I was interested but it was total out of the question after that.
I think the best option to the ST is a lightly used 2018-19 Tahoe RST with the 6.2.
If I keep getting d*cked around on my ST order, then that’s my fall back plan.

Yep, transverse/fwd. Mine had the Autobahn package which meant a little more aggressive gearing and a higher too speed (140 was the highest I could get to). It was a really nice car for it's time with decent power.

Have you been waiting a long time? I considered a 18-19 Tahoe RST as well but I have a 18 Silverado now that I'm trading in. After having the tires balanced 15 times it seems like, it's decently smooth but not perfect. With the booming issues and vibration issues on the SUVs I would definitely do a lot of research first.

I ordered at the end of July. Wife’s lease is up at the end of December so that’s the cutoff for us.

I’m still rockin a 2012 Sierra that’s I’ve owned since new. I continuously shop for a new truck to replace it, but it hasn’t given me an ounce of trouble since I’ve bought it. No repairs, just some limited maintenance. With the current problems on the 6.2s and 3.0, I’m not going that route. The newer 5.3 don’t offer enough of a benefit to spend 50K+. Would consider switching to Ford there, with either a 2.7 or 5.0. Although the 5.0s have a wrap fro being oil burners. And don’t get me started about cylinder deactivation lol.

I wasn’t aware of many issues with that generation of the platform. I will take a closer look if we end up going that route, thanks.

My 2020 ST was my first new Ford purchase too. GM guy all my life; Tahoe’s Camaro's, Sierra, Silverado, Corvette’s and more. This ST has been flawless since day one; never brought it to service for anything since I do my own maintenance. I’ve had company vehicles including Fords and that’s why I wasn’t afraid of buying one. I plan on keeping it if only that new BMW M4 Competition would stop tapping me on the shoulder.
