Octane Adjust Ratio (OAR)

The Ford Octane Adjust Ratio (OAR) is a system that adjusts the ignition timing to improve engine efficiency and power. The OAR uses feedback from the knock sensor and fuel quality to determine when to adjust the ignition timing.

How it works

• The OAR starts at 0.0 and adjusts towards -1.0 when conditions are optimal.
  
  
• When conditions are sub-optimal, the OAR adjusts towards +1.0.
  
  
• The OAR controls access to load limiting tables, which are for low, medium, and high octane.
  
  
• The OAR adjusts the ignition timing to improve engine efficiency, fuel economy, and power.

I stopped monitoring OAR the week after I started tuning my Focus ST. Use good quality fuel and it'll always be -1.00.
