We have no idea what you're talking about. The pic shows 255/55, your post now says 245/50. What does the differential have to do with anything? Unless you're talking about the DIFFERENCE between these tire sizes? And what does this have to do with brake clearance? Are you buying different rims as well? If you want help, you have to be more informative. Meanwhile, I'll give you some advice, just do what the tire store wants you to do!
You can go as small as an 18” wheel and put the snow tire you like on them. Sounds like you’re looking for something in the 8-8.5” wide range. Offset would be in the 37.5-40 range if you wanted to match oem.
