The Grand Highlander has suffered from significant teething trouble as a new generation model. They had the recall and stop sale/build disaster from airbag problems and some other issues. A neighbor traded in her Mercedes SUV for one of the first GH's to hit the showroom late last summer and waited about 8 months to get her second key fob. Also, Toyota insists on putting Chrometec plastic wheels on their top trim models which I despise.
When I talked to the dealer in October they said the pipeline was reopened and they'd have plenty of inventory in about 30 days which did not happen. Even today they have one GH on the website which is being built and pre-sold. They have about 3 Land Cruisers and they're all over $70K and 4-Runners aren't due to hit the lot until next month...maybe, and will be MSRP plus.
The Honda Pilot redesign a few years ago looked good but after lurking on the 'Piloteer' forum for several months it was apparent this generation build had numerous niggling issues that were troubling owners. For example there is some sort of plastic clip for the pano sunroof shade that breaks and prevents the shade from being closed. From the forum comments the parts were often backordered and took months to arrive and required major disassembly of the headliner to repair. No thanks. Around here in my rural TX location you buy a domestic brand, or Toyota, Honda, VW, Nissan, Mazda, Kia, or Hyundai, even Subaru is too exotic for this place. This is my first Ford and I'm hoping it will be a good experience.
