Error Messages

I just bought a used 2020 Ford Explorer ST about 2 months ago. This is my dream car and have always wanted one. I was super excited when I found one for a good price. Anyways, about 2 weeks ago, I started getting error messages when I crank it. Hill assist unavailable, pre collision assist not available, etc. I've read the threads saying it could be the front half shaft speed sensor which makes sense. But what doesn't make sense is that it does not give those warnings when I remote start the car. I've been in the car and remote started it and none of the errors show up. Has anyone else experienced this problem and know why?

Probably just a glitch or something. Front half shaft speed sensor most likely will need to be replaced either way.

On these cars (or any modern car for that matter), it behooves you to get a code reader and scan for codes. There are many issues that will produce these dash warnings. Hopefully it is just the speed sensor but could also be AWD module, front axle disconnect actuator, or transfer case.

Get it scanned for codes for free at AutoZone or a local parts store that offers it. OR you can buy a OB2II dongle on Amazon and download an app on your phone to do it. This will help narrow down what errors are being reported.

I took it to Advanced Auto Parts, but no codes came up. I will try some of the other auto parts stores in town before buying anything. I might have to invest in a scanner of my own with all of the technology on this car. Thanks for the advice!

All you need is a dongle ($30) and the free Forscan and it’ll pull up all the codes.
