Just installed a Whipple intercooler.

Yesterday I installed a Whipple intercooler. I don't have a tune on my ST but what a difference it made on acceleration. It has given consistent pull through the entire acceleration. At low RPM the acceleration is smooth with no hesitation. I am very happy with the intercooler.

Awesome, after doing some data logging, it’s pretty clear the stock intercooler doesn’t do much.

Ordered mine late last week from Whoosh. How’d the install go?

I saw on the Whipple site a 17min installation video which was actually really well done. Lots of steps to do the job, but didn't look terribly complicated. As above, ^^ wondering if that's how it actually goes!

Also - does a new IC effect your warranty coverage?

Warranty claims are assessed on an individual basis. If your modification can be proven to have caused the failure you’re attempting to warranty it can be denied but it must be proven in order for the claim to be denied. Magnusson Moss Act

Is this consistent every day so far?

Here is some comparison data if anyone is interested.

With the intercooler change there was a drastic drop in IAT2 temps.
It was a little warmer for the data after the intercooler swap, but the delta's still show the story.
This is on a 91 BoostKing tune that is a ideal DD tune for me and the Wife.
These numbers are at 6000ft + DA
Max airflow 42#/Min
~16lbs of boost
WOT run data 0-120mph

Stock intercooler
Ambient 68*
Intake 73*
IAT2 Min during WOT 99*
IAT2 Max during WOT 167*
IAT Max Delta 94*
Average timing 0* BTDC
KR -1 to -1.5

Whipple Intercooler

Ambient 77*
Intake 90*
IAT2 Min during WOT 93*
IAT2 Max during WOT 100*
IAT Max Delta 10*
Average timing 2* BTDC
KR +2 to -0.6

I am assuming that things with the stock intercooler would be even worse at higher boost levels, so pretty happy to gain a decent amount of power through the pull and have overall more consistent temps which lead to more consistent timing.

That's some great info. Would you happen to know what the rough dimensions of the IC are?

I am using HP Tuners with a MPVI2.
Just to note, I use the “Beta” software. I’m sure most others would too, but just noting it as the general release has pretty much no channels available for my ‘21.

I also have a spare SCT X4 that I’ve built a config file for, but it more so I can have some gauges when I want.

Never measured it, sorry. I could measure the imprint in the packing foam though.

If it helps, the stocker is 10 row and the Whipple is 33 rows.

That helps as a visual, thank you. How deep do you think it is? 3"s maybe?

I didn't measure anything before installing it, but the stock one is 6.25" tall and 2.5" deep (just measured it), the Whipple is the same depth (maybe a hair more)

Oh awesome! Thank you so much. I'm just trying to figure some things out before I make any decisions.

No not at all with intercooler. If anything it’s an upgrade. A tune along with the intercooler where you’ll get the most gains will probably “void” your warranty but sometimes they still will cover it if you’re lucky.
