I don't have any error codes yet. I'm sure it will eventually happen as it is slowly leaking. Do you think the dealer will still address it, or make me wait until the code appears?
Dealers tend not to do anything until a code appears. With just a leak, the dealer will be replacing only the O-ring with the revised part. That said, I externally sealed the FADA leak with Permatex red sealant and also Permatex spray sealant, after cleaning with brake cleaner (as mentioned earlier in the thread). It's been a year and the "fix" has held, so it must be a low pressure leak. It's quite possible the FADA fails because it drains all the oil from the front differential.
Another winner here, thankfully fully covered by the powertrain warranty. I'd like to also say how much I appreciate this forum. It helped me be proactive and check it closely since the dealer hasn't said anything during Quick lane oil changes. Perhaps they don't remove the deflector since they pull from the top.
I have a similar issue. I’m taking mine in on 12/3/24. 58600 miles, poor design and QC on Ford’s end. Hopefully it’s covered under drivetrain warranty.
Anybody know if it will be covered?
Dealer completed work under drivetrain warranty. No deductible. Completed. Just make sure they use correct jack points. Twice dealer failed to use proper jack points and crushed pinch welds
I'm grateful that I ran across this thread. Just went to the dealer today and they told me the front axle disconnect O ring is leaking and needs to be replaced. The rub is that my odometer just kissed 60,073 so power train is out of force. Of course the tech didn't even mention that the power train would have covered the repair and the quote to replace the O ring was ridiculous. Is there any chance Ford would cave and cover the repair? Has anyone else had this happen outside of warranty and if so what was the quote to complete the repair?
By all means, contact Ford customer service to see if they will pay for it out of good will. This is a known problem and Ford should have recalled all Explorers which used this substandard O-ring--basically all 2020 and most 2021. If you get no love, do what I did and seal that puppy up externally with gasket sealer and spray. Mine has held up 2 year and 40k miles...
